When I first got started as an P&C, health and life Insurance professional, I had a lot of emotional “Head Trash.” I let myself get used and abused by prospects and clients. I set appointments with cold calls--

--and as you can imagine, when I showed up (often the prospect wasn’t even there…even after confirming the appointment) my positioning was terrible, I was nothing more than an unpaid consultant.

I was just a producer.)  My income shot up like a rocket and I blew past producers that had been there for 2 full years before me.  




Before discovering and proving my MASTER CLOSER system --I was always angry at prospects for treating me poorly, for comparing my prices, for stringing me along…I was always upset when they didn’t buy from me.

My Embarrassing Personal Confession


Some people are just tough. They don’t care about what others say, think, or do. You know, the Clint Eastwood or Batman type characters who live by their own rules and care nothing about what others think of them...

I was never that way. In fact, as a youth, (this is the embarrassing part) I suffered with an extremely low self esteem. I never had any self confidence.

This lack of self confidence created what they call in psychology; a “High need for approval.”
I wanted people to like me, accept me, treat me well—and I hated rejection.  I didn’t like confrontation. I didn’t stand up to prospects who were wasting my time. In the back of my mind, even if I knew they weren’t going to close -- I foolishly hoped this time would be different. You may or may not struggle with this, but I know many people do.

(What’s funny is that now I’ve flipped 180 degrees. Some people accuse me of being a bit too rough around the edges. I don’t care what people think or say, I know I can accomplish whatever I want.

In fact my uncle mark, a professional artist, painted me a picture of Clint Eastwood by himself on the range with his horse and knowingly dedicated it “The Lone Rider”.)

But…I carried this ‘need for approval’ baggage with me into the insurance business…and spending 6-8 hours a day on the phone getting used and abused by prospects was tough on me.

I would waste DAYS, driving, meeting and quoting up prospects, putting together proposals, working with underwriting, chasing down paperwork, only to be told, “Let me get back to you.”  IT BURNS ME UP TO THIS DAY HEARING THAT PHRASE!


The garbage man doesn’t drive all the way to your house, dump your trash and then hope that he’s going to get paid for it

Why should we work for free? Because that’s the way it’s been taught by the ‘old school”…
